Sensory-Friendly Underwear Where Comfort Meets Self-Expression

Unbinned Wear makes sensory-friendly underwear for kids who do not fit in a bin. Soft cotton, flat-lock seams, and irritation-free waistbands, in fits named by shape instead of gender, so every kid can just be a kid.

It started on a bedroom floor

Unbinned started in a place every parent can relate to. The messy floor of a child's bedroom while coffee brews in the kitchen. When one of my twins was four, he proudly and passionately declared, "I only wear beautiful things!"

He got many beautiful new clothes to support his passion. The one thing I could never find was beautiful underwear that was comfortable for his shape.

Everything for kids was in a gendered bin

I realized how boxed in children's basics really are. Every option sat in a gendered bin. Bright, beautiful underwear designed for the shape of girls. Action-oriented underwear packed with dinosaurs and superheroes for boys. What boys and girls "should" want to wear.

There was nothing for children who wanted to express themselves differently than society expects them to.

Then came the seams, the tags, and the waistbands

Two years later, his brother was diagnosed with ADHD. He is particularly sensitive to loud noises. Watching him move through a world that does not accommodate his triggers taught me something important. A child needs to feel safe and free to express themselves, even in a world that disapproves of expression.

He was never sensitive about his clothes. Millions of other neurodivergent children and children with sensory sensitivities are. A scratchy seam, a stiff waistband, or a tag rubbing on the skin can create a morning full of overwhelming sensation that sets a child up for a miserable day. Our kids deserve better.

We threw out the bins, the categories, and the expectations.

What sensory-friendly means at Unbinned

Sensory-friendly is not a label we stuck on the package. It is four decisions we made about how the underwear is built, so getting dressed stops being the hardest part of the morning.

Consistent soft cotton

Premium, sensory-safe fabric that feels the same on the tenth wash as it did on the first. No surprise textures at 7 a.m.

Flat-lock seams

Seams lie flat against the skin instead of ridging up. Nothing to scratch, dig in, or rub raw over a long day.

Irritation-free waistbands

Soft, covered waistbands with no stiff elastic edge and no tag rubbing at the back. Comfort that holds up through recess.

Prints kids pick themselves

Vibrant, beautiful prints that are not sorted into a boys' bin or a girls' bin. Your kid picks the one that feels like them.

Fits named by shape, not by gender

Kids' bodies are shaped differently, and that has nothing to do with what a bin says they should want. So we named our fits after the shape they are cut for. Pick the one that is comfortable. That is the whole rule.

Flat Front

A smooth, flat front cut with room to move and no bunching.

Contour

A gently contoured cut that follows the body without pinching.

U-Shape

A relaxed U-shaped front with extra room and a soft, easy sit.

Available in sizes 2T through 12. Every fit comes in every print.

Frequently asked questions

What makes underwear sensory-friendly?

Sensory-friendly underwear removes the things that cause irritation on the skin. At Unbinned that means flat-lock seams that lie flat instead of ridging up, an irritation-free waistband with no stiff elastic edge or scratchy tag, and a soft cotton that feels consistent wash after wash.

Are your fits for boys or for girls?

Neither. Our three fits are named for the shape they are cut for: Flat Front, Contour, and U-Shape. Any kid can wear any fit and any print. You pick the one that is comfortable.

What sizes does Unbinned Wear make?

We make sizes 2T through 12, and every fit is offered in every print. Larger sizes are on our list for a future run.

Is this only for neurodivergent kids?

No. Unbinned is made for every kid. It is designed with extra care for neurodivergent kids and kids with sensory sensitivities, because comfortable basics make a real difference to their day, and comfortable basics are better for everyone.

What is Unbinned Wear underwear made of?

A premium, sensory-safe soft cotton. We chose it for consistency, because a fabric that feels different every time it comes out of the dryer is its own kind of problem for a sensitive kid.
